Lynx Rally to Defeat #14 Depauw

The Rhodes College baseball team scored 11 runs in the final innings to take the second game of today's double header 12-9.   The Lynx offense was held in check by the Depauw pitching staff for the majority of the game, including being no hit for the first five innings.  The Lynx erupted for a five run 8th and a 6 run 9th to take the victory.

Junior Charles Simmons picked up his 5th victory of the season, working 1.2 innings out of the bullpen.  Simmons is now 5-0 on the year.  Lynx starter Senior Robert Flanagan kept Rhodes in the game working the first six innings, striking out 3 and walking one.  Freshman Taylor Babich was able to stop a late rally in the bottom of the ninth and earn his 3rd save of the year.  Babich needed only six pitches to enduce a ground out and strike out to end the game.

The Lynx offense did not get their first hit of the game until there was one out in the top of the sixth ended the game with 15 hits of which 6 went for extra bases.  The Lynx tied the game 6-6 with a 5 run top of the eighth.  Freshman Kyle Peterson delievered the biggest blow with a pinch hit 2 out 2 RBI single to centerfield.  Peterson ended the game 1-1 with 2 RBIs.  The Lynx offense was led by Junior SS J.R. Bizzell who was 3-6 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Sophomore CF Brandon Valentine was 2-2 with a homerun, 2 RBIs, and a run scored.  This was Valentine's first career homerun.  Senior DH Daniel Vanaman was 2-4 with a triple, 2 runs scored, and got hit by a pitch.  Freshman 3B Brent Lindsey was 1-3 with a double, 3 RBIs, run scored, sac fly, and stole a base.  Sophomore 2B Andy Boucher was 2-5 with 2 doubles, an RBI, and scored 2 runs.
